Wyoming gas station murder suspect arrested in Grand Rapids

Willie Bryant was taken into custody near a McDonald's at the corner of Michigan Street and College Avenue, on the city's northeast side.

WYOMING, Mich. - The man police suspect in the murder of a Wyoming convenience store clerk is now in custody. Police arrested Willie Bryant, 33, on Monday, May 21 around 9:20 p.m. in Grand Rapids.

He was taken into custody without incident near a McDonald's at the corner of Michigan Street and College Avenue, on the city's northeast side.

Investigators say Bryant and two accomplices are responsible for the murder of Shannon Rozanski-Shoen, 48. She was the clerk at a Marathon Gas Station on the corner of 28th Street SW and Buchanan Avenue.

"We believe it was an attempted robbery," says Lt. Tim Pols of the Wyoming Department of Public Safety. "She was on the night shift."

Monday afternoon the Grand Rapids Police Department surrounded a home for seven hours on Franklin Street near Eastern Avenue, on the southeast side. They arrested the suspected get-away car driver and confiscated the vehicle, but did not find Bryant.

There was a heavy police presence on Franklin Street for most of the day, and students at Campus Elementary and the Gerald R. Ford Academic Center who lived in the area were kept at school until their parents could pick them up.

A warrant had also been issued for Bryant's arrest in connection to a different case in Grand Rapids. Police say he shot a 55-year-old woman on Sunday afternoon. She is in critical condition.

Police say one accomplice in the convenience store murder is still not in custody. They ask anyone with information to contact the Wyoming Department of Public Safety Investigative Division at 616-530-7300 or Silent Observer at 616- 774-2345.
