Town hall meeting will discuss future of Cedar Springs superintendent

Superintendent Laura Van Duyn is accused of financial irresponsibility, compromising student performance and using intimidation.

She's come under fire recently as hundreds of people call for her removal. On Thursday, March 15, a town hall will take place to discuss the future of Cedar Springs Public Schools Superintendent, Laura Van Duyn.

This issue has become extremely divisive. It started with an online petition that quickly gained momentum and the contention spilled into a standing-room only school board meeting Monday night.

More than 1,000 people, among them teachers and staff, are calling for Van Duyn's resignation. They're accusing her of financial irresponsibility, compromising student performance and using intimidation.

They claim it has led to nearly 80 teachers and staff members have leaving over the past three years. Others are standing squarely behind Van Duyn, saying those that want her gone, are being unfair.

Tonight's town hall meeting is taking place at the Solon Township Hall at 7 p.m. Both sides will pick up that discussion during the meeting.

So far, the Cedar Springs Public School Board has declined to take any action on the matter. We will follow developments and bring them to you as they become available.
