Homicide investigation launched after skeletal remains found in trunk of burned vehicle

The Muskegon County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a body was found inside a burned vehicle.

DALTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A homicide investigation is underway in Muskegon County after a body was found inside a burned vehicle. 

The Muskegon County Sheriff's Office said that they found skeletal remains in the trunk of the burned vehicle on Saturday in a remote area near the Village of Lakewood Club in Dalton Township. 

While investigating, police went to the residence where the vehicle's registered owner lives, which is in Montague. They discovered another crime scene there. 

The Sheriff's Office said the victim was "specifically targeted." 

Montague Police and Michigan State Police are helping the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office with the investigation. 

This is an ongoing investigation, and police will release information as it becomes available.
