All cows accounted for after barn fire in Coopersville

An estimated 500 cows were initially let loose in order to escape the fire.

COOPERSVILLE, Mich. — Authorities say an estimated 500 cows are all accounted for after they were let loose during a barn fire in Coopersville Wednesday night.

The fire started around 11 p.m. in a barn at a farm on 56th Avenue and was extinguished by 2:30 a.m.

Ottawa County Central Dispatch confirmed to 13 ON YOUR SIDE the cows were freed during the fire, but as of 3:30 a.m., all cows had been accounted for and have been moved to a nearby pasture owned by a neighbor who offered to help out.

They believe some cows died in the fire, but it's unclear how many.

56th Avenue between Roosevelt and Cleveland had to be shut down during the investigation but is now back open.

Ottawa County Dispatch says no one was injured in the fire.
