Suspected drunken driver hits parked police car in Detroit, hurts trooper

The woman driving the car was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Police said there were children in the vehicle with her, and they were released to relatives.

A Michigan State Police trooper was slightly injured in an overnight crash on I-96 near I-94 in Detroit when a suspected drunken driver hit the rear of his parked patrol car, police said.

Trooper Matt Unterbrink was treated at a local hospital for unspecified injuries and released. He and his canine partner, Boz, were both doing well, and are expected to return to work in a few days, according to an MSP Twitter feed.

The woman driving the car was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Police said there were children in the vehicle with her, and they were released to relatives. There were no other injuries.

Unterbrink had been blocking traffic with his patrol vehicle and was inside the car when the woman's vehicle struck his. The trooper had gone to the area to assist another trooper who was dealing with an abandoned vehicle on eastbound I-96.

Police did not specify the time on the accident.
