Man facing 20-year felony charge after making threat that put East Grand Rapids on lockdown

Windell Sallie is charged with one count of false report of terrorism, a 20-year felony, and one count of illegal entry, a 90-day misdemeanor.

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A 28-year-old man has been charged after making a threat that caused East Grand Rapids Public Schools to go into a partial lockdown on Monday, Sept. 17.

Windell Sallie is charged with one count of false report of terrorism, a 20-year felony, and one count of illegal entry, a 90-day misdemeanor. The false report of terrorism charge was issued because Sallie specified a threat of violence on school grounds.

He was arrested on Monday after he made the threat.

Grand Rapids Police said that he threatened his teenage nephew, and the threat stemmed from a family dispute that started before school Monday morning. The threat included assaulting his nephew at school.

When the student and his guardian got to school, school administrators were informed of the threat and, following school protocol, they went on lockdown until EGR police arrived. They determined that the threats were made in the city of Grand Rapids, so GRPD got involved.

Shortly before 1 p.m., Sallie was arrested and the lockdown was lifted. GRPD tracked Sallie down to the victim's home. Sallie does not live there, so police arrested him for entering without permission. He was charged with making a terrorist threat on Tuesday.

An arraignment date has not yet been set.

Grand Rapids Police and the Kent County Prosecutor's Office said this in a statement: "Making a threat of violence toward a school or student at a school will not be tolerated and will be taken very seriously."
