But the high school football season is now underway. Thursday night the Byron Center Bulldogs and more than a dozen other schools hosted home games.

Many were playing before what will probably be their biggest crowds of the year. That’s the way it usually is for the opening game.

After weeks of practice, preparation and anticipation, it was finally show time.

“Yea, opening day is really exciting,” says Kurt Sattler, who coaches middle school players in Byron Center.

"Everyone is zero and zero in their record. Nobody has any defeats yet.”

“I am just excited to be our here to support the kids,” says parent Laura Bainbridge.

“These kids have been working for weeks to get prepared. We have just been looking forward to football. I mean there is nothing like football.”

Thursday was the beginning of a busy west Michigan high school weekend.
