Flowers still expected to bloom in time for Tulip Festival

In an update on the city's website, officials say the the snow has slowed growth.

HOLLAND, Mich. - Despite the freezing temperatures Holland city officials say we will see colorful flowers at this years Tulip Time Festival.

In an update on the city's website, officials say the the snow has slowed growth but with warmer temperatures in the forecast, the growth process is expected to pick back up.

Last fall the city planted more than 400,000 bulbs throughout the town. Tulip Time brings in thousands of people into the lakeshore community for the last 89 years.

Earlier this month, Holland's park supervisor Steve Zwiep told 13 On Your Side despite the snow, he was confident we would see color come early May.

"If we are at normal temperatures or above normal temperatures that will accelerate and we're still going to be looking on time. We're going to have a beautiful Tulip festival -- there should be plenty of color," Zwiep said on April 4.

This year's Tulip Time festival will run from May 5 through 13.
