HOLLAND, Mich. - On Tuesday afternoon, two nine-year-old girls were swept off the pier by a wave at Holland State Park.

Ottawa County Dispatch says that they were quickly rescued and only suffered from a few bumps and bruises.

Holland State Park said on Monday night that they issued a red flag warning because of unsafe wave conditions. In a Facebook post, they said that there were dangerous conditions "especially near the pier."

On Tuesday, they started the day out with a yellow flag, but said that conditions may change. Around 2:45 p.m. they upgraded the beach conditions to a red flag warning and advised people against swimming.

The state park said, "If you are at the beach and have a loved one in the water we strongly recommend that you ask them to get out now as dangerous currents can result in tragic consequences."

There is a high swim risk advisory for Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren Counties.
