KENT COUNTY, Mich. — One man is injured following an explosion inside his carport in White Creek Country Estates in Solon Township Tuesday evening.
Deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of several explosions inside a carport around 5:15 p.m. Police say the man’s neighbors pulled him out from underneath the carport after the explosion. The neighbors also rescued the man’s mother who lives inside the house, which had been damaged and burning.
The man, a 50-year-old resident of the park, suffered severe injuries to his hands and burns on his body, according to police. He was transported to the hospital. The man’s mother was uninjured.
While police are still investigating the cause of the explosion, they believe it may be connected to several butane tanks that were inside the carport.
