KENT CITY, Mich. — An overnight fire damaged a home and destroyed a vehicle in Kent City.
The call for first responders went out just before 4:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of Jacata Drive NW.
Five people were inside the home at the time of the fire, including multiple children and pets, the fire chief on scene said. Everyone made it out safely.
The family was alerted to the fire thanks to their smoke detectors and their quick thinking to call 911.
The home is damaged, especially the left exterior wall. Firefighters report minimal damage to the inside of the home.
The worst of the damage was to a vehicle, which was destroyed by the flames. A pontoon-style boat parked in the driveway was also heavily damaged.
No firefighters were harmed while battling the fire.
