Report: Michigan leads nation in PFAS contamination

Michigan leads the country with 28 known contamination sites in at least 15 communities.

A recent report shows Michigan is the nationwide leader for known PFAS contamination sites.

The report was done by The Environmental Working Group.

It found that the number of known PFAS sites has skyrocketed nationwide since 2016. Michigan leads the country with 28 known contamination sites in at least 15 communities.

One of those communities is in Northern Kent County. That contamination has been linked to shoemaker, Wolverine Worldwide.

PFAS have been linked in previous studies to several forms of cancer and other health issues.

Private wells in Michigan have tested as high as 800 times the EPA's advisory level of 70 parts-per-trillion.
