West Michigan woman desperately searching for suitcase bearing her late mother's wedding ring

Paige Bush's father gave her the necklace with the diamond from her mother's wedding ring on her own wedding day. It's the only time she's ever worn it.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A West Michigan woman is asking for your help to find a suitcase that fell out of her truck somewhere between Grand Rapids and Middleville on Monday, Dec. 10.

Paige Bush said she was leaving her parents' house around 5:30 p.m. with her 4-month-old son and her dog when she put the suitcase in the back of the truck. When she arrived at her in-laws' house in Middleville, she realized she never closed the tailgate.

At first, she was just embarrassed that she had left the tailgate open, but knew she could replace the suitcase and the clothing inside it.

"Then it finally hit me that I did have my mom's necklace in it, which changed everything," Bush said.

Bush, who lost her mother to breast cancer in the 8th grade, said her father had made her mother's wedding ring into a necklace for her to wear on her wedding day last year. Her wedding day is the only time Bush has ever worn it. She had brought it along this weekend in hopes of wearing it to her work holiday party.

"I changed my mind real fast. Put it back in the box - for it to stay safe and I am just hoping it comes back that way," she said on Tuesday.

The missing suitcase is a hard shell, black in color and looks just like the one in the photo below.

Bush posted about the suitcase on Facebook as soon as she realized. After one hour, the post had already been shared more than a thousand times.

She said she took 5 Mile Road to the East Beltline, to I-96 eastbound toward Lansing. She exited at the Lowell/Charlotte exit and continued to Middleville. Bush was able to review surveillance camera footage from the Lowell/Charlotte exit gas station where she stopped, and the suitcase did not appear to be in the truck bed at that point.

Bush's family is offering a cash reward for the suitcase.
