Rev. Nathaniel Moody takes City Commissioner oath

Rev. Nathaniel Moody pledges he will be commissioner for the entire city after he is sworn in to fill vacancy in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - He promises to support the constitution and faithfully discharge the duties of his office -- and with that oath at city hall Tuesday night, Rev. Nathaniel Moody is now officially a Grand Rapids City Commissioner.

“I’m going to do everything in my power to the best of my ability to be a commissioner for the entire City of Grand Rapids,” he said at the ceremony.

Rev. Moody was appointed last month to represent the 3rd Ward after the resignation of Commissioner David Allen. Rev. Moody first took the oath in July when he was selected from three finalists for the position. The ceremony on Tuesday, Aug. 28, was a more organized event attended by the new commissioner’s family and friends.

“I want to thank all of your for being here because you guys are the support of my life and what I do in this city is because of you,” he told the audience.

“I am looking forward to the work we have before us and the change we are looking to make,” said Commissioner Senita Lenear, who also represents the 3rd Ward. “Thank you for being willing to serve.”

Previously, Rev. Moody served on the Grand Rapids School Board. He has been a pastor in the city for over 20 years.

“We are so delighted to serve with you,” said Mayor Rosalynn Bliss.
