Montague Wildcats go into season with lofty goals

The Montague Wildcats are not shy about revealing their ultimate goal for the 2018 high school football season.

MONTAGUE, Mich. - Opening night for high school football in Michigan is Thursday, Aug. 23, which means the 13 ON YOUR SIDE sports department has a lot of scouting to do before the first 13 On Your Sidelines show that same night.

We're crisscrossing the area letting you know about as many West Michigan football programs as we can.

The Montague Wildcats want a state championship. Badly.

That's the goal coach Pat Collins says his team made. He thinks they can do it because they have been building on the success of prior seasons.

For years, Montague was a young team, but they became very senior-oriented last year, and they are once again with 15 seniors on the squad showing both experience and leadership. However, their overall numbers are low and depth is a concern this year.

Montague opens up with Reed City.
