Transgender woman sues Spectrum Health for discrimination

Cadence Morton has been employed with Spectrum Health since 2004.

A transgender woman is suing her employer and insurance company for not covering her gender confirmation surgeries.

Cadence Morton has been employed with Spectrum Health since 2004.

She told us that spectrum, and her insurance company, priority health, did not provide insurance coverage for her gender dysphoria treatment.

The lawsuit alleges employment discrimination, misrepresentation and a violation of nondiscrimination provision in the Affordable Care Act.

She said in a statement,"I want to see Spectrum Health and Priority Health end this discriminatory practice and fulfill their obligation to the entire community of people that they employ and serve, regardless of that person's gender identity.”
