COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. - On Saturday, Aug. 25, the West Michigan Whitecaps are teaming up with another local sports team, the Grand Rapids Griffins.

At the game, the Whitecaps will be wearing special Griffins inspired jerseys. These will be auctioned off online during the game, and proceeds will benefit the Jake Engel family.

Engel worked for both teams during his career before he suddenly passed away in February.

There will also be a few more Griffins inspired activities:

  • A Teddy Bear Toss after the Whitecaps score their first run. Fans are asked to bring teddy bears to the game and all bears tossed onto the field will be donated to Billy Bear
  • Appearances by Griffins announcers Bob Kaser, Josh Pettinger and Eric Zane
  • Griffins' mascots Griff and Finn will be at the game
  • Michigan native, Dominik Shine will do a ceremonial first "wrist shot" instead of a first pitch

The Griffins hosted a similar event in March, where they also raised money for the Engel family.

Tickets for the Salute to the Grand Rapids Griffins can be purchased here.
