Grand Rapids is one of 70 cities nationwide where AT&T Fiber is available.
The 1 gigabit connection is available in 7 million locations throughout the U.S., which now includes homes, apartments and small businesses throughout West Michigan.
"High-speed internet has quickly become a preferred way to access information and communicate,” said Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss. “I am glad to see this investment from AT&T, and am certain that the increased ability to tout Grand Rapid’s connectivity to fiber internet further strengthens the reputation of our community.”
Fiber costs $70 monthly for customers who bundle with an additional AT&T service, or $80 as a standalone.
The 1 gig connection allows users to do things like download 25 songs in 1 second or a 90-minute HD movie in less than 34 seconds.
AT&T representatives would not publicly disclose how many utility boxes they installed in Grand Rapids.
