GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Calling all wizards, witches and muggles alike — the furry friends at the Humane Society of West Michigan (HSWM) have been sorted into their houses and are ready to find their fur-ever homes.

The transfiguration professors at HSWM will be using their best spells to turn the shelter into the halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for the adoption event.

Doors will be open on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and everything is in place for it to be a magical time.

The Sorting Ceremony has taken place, and each animal has been placed into the house that best suits them.

Knowing the traits of each house can help you decide which animal may be best suited for you.

But it's not just dogs that have the courageous spirit of the hallowed Gryffindor lion.

While Slytherin tends to have a negative reputation, it's important to remember that those sorted into this house are known to be ambitious and destined for greatness.

And there's nothing more exciting than the cunning curiosity found only in Slytherin cats.

When it comes to those sorted into Ravenclaw, you'll never find a more intelligent furry companion.

And the chances are slim to none that any creature is wittier than a Ravenclaw rat.

Dogs sorted into Hufflepuff are sure to be trustworthy, loyal friends.

Zoey Goehring, the corporate engagement coordinator for HSWM, said they're thrilled to open the doors to Hogwarts for this special event.

You don't need a Hogwarts acceptance letter to attend, just an open heart.

"Go in with a really open mind," Goehring said. "You never know what you can find, even if you have an idea of what you want going into it. So you're thinking, 'Okay, I want this dog in particular,' go in with an open mind. Tell our adoption counselors what you're looking for, and then you'll go home with the dog that you never thought you would be best suited for — and it actually will be your perfect fit."

After all, Slytherins and Hufflepuffs have completely different character traits and are known to end up being the best of friends.

"Trust us when we try to help you out," Goehring said. "We want the best for our animals and the best for our community members as well."

Hop on the Hogwarts Express at Platform 9 3/4 and head out to find your new best friend — they're ready and waiting for you right in Grand Rapids.
