GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Nominations are now being accepted for the annual Roots in Education grant from Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU).

The grant will distribute $1,000 to 25 teachers to revamp their classroom or teaching process. The prize can be used on classroom supplies, subscription services or anything that will improve the classroom or teaching experience for students.

This year, LMCU is searching for teachers who have an optimistic attitude. Parents, students, coworkers and community members are encouraged to nominate an outstanding teacher in their community for the grant.

"Our grant program for educators is not only a meaningful recognition of our deep roots in education, but it also gives us an opportunity to make a difference for those who are making a difference themselves," reads the LMCU website.

Any teacher between pre-K and 12th grade is able to be nominated for the grant. Winners will be selected by a review committee with LMCU. The following aspects will be taken into account to select winners:

  • Nomination clearly describes how the educator embodies the selected trait
  • Nomination demonstrates the educator's impact on students and school community
  • Nomination is passionate and distinctive

Nominations are open beginning Feb. 1 and close on March 31. For more information or to nominate a teacher, click here.
