GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Happening Monday, you can taste more than 30 different kinds of soup all while helping to feed those facing food insecurity in West Michigan.
The popular Soup’s On for All event is back! The annual fundraiser raises money for God’s Kitchen which provides 75,000 free meals each year.
Organizers say no soup will be the same and everyone who buys a ticket will take home a hand-painted bowl.
Colleen Vorel is the executive chef with Catholic Charities. She says she make so much soup for the event that she has to prepare months in advance.
“We usually start right after Thanksgiving, making the soups that I’ll freeze because there are so many. We’ll make over 100 gallons,” said Vorel.
God’s Kitchen program manager Jeff Hoih said, “You don’t know what homeless or food insecure looks like. It could be that person that’s right in front of you at Meijer, or the person walking on the sidewalk. You just don’t know. We’re just here to help. We’re here to help people with that one need, which is food. People that come into God’s Kitchen tell us this is their only meal of the day. So, we know that when they come, we need to feed them a hearty, healthy meal.”
Soup’s On for All starts at 6:30 p.m. at The B.O.B. in downtown Grand Rapids. They’re hoping to raise $100,000.
Presale tickets will end at 10 a.m. Monday. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
