GREEN CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Division over the proposed $2.4 billion Gotion battery plant resulted in a recall of five of the seven members of the Green Charter Township board.
Before the recall effort, two of those board members resigned.
The board unanimously voted in support of a property tax abatement plan that would help bring the Gotion plant to Mecosta County.
Current Supervisor James Chapman was beaten by challenger, Jason Kruse who received 71% of the vote, according to unofficial results.
Township Supervisor Jim Chapman said over the phone, "It is what it is. I have to go, I've got deer hunting to do."
Voters also recalled the Township Clerk, the township Treasurer and the two other Trustees.
Voters also denied a referendum to create the Green Charter Planning Commission.
“Gotion is a multinational company that does not engage in political posturing,” said Chuck Thelen, vice president of Gotion Inc. – North American Manufacturing. “We continue to steadfastly work to meet our commitment of creating 2,350 jobs in the state of Michigan while communicating factually and transparently with all regulatory organizations.”
