With the average adult spending over 7 hours each day connected to the internet, that’s a lot of time to be exposed to news and information. While knowing what’s happening in the world is part of being an informed citizen, we also need to monitor and address it so we’re not negatively affected. Dr. Greg Mallis from Pine Rest had some advice for reducing the associated stress.

First and foremost, he said, limit news consumption.

Take breaks and focus on self-care. Dr. Mallis advised a good way to manage feelings of stress is to find ways to be involved in issues that impact you.

Don’t let the news stress you out. Take action, even if that means simply writing a letter.

He said to allow others to have their opinions and don't get drawn into arguments.

And, finally, focus on positive things in your life and in the world.
