Hip or knee replacement surgery is a big step to take and there’s lots to consider before going that route.
The team at Corewell Health walks alongside its patients, from consultation to full recovery.
Dr. Clayton Perry is an orthopedic surgeon with Corewell and he joined us to talk about total hip replacement, how the decision is made, what the procedure entails, and what recovery looks like.
Dr. Perry said Corewell Health offers anterior hip replacement, where the surgeon makes a small incision near the front of the hip and spreads the muscle and tendons to conduct the replacement procedure.
This is different from a POSTERIOR hip replacement, which involves cutting through muscle and tendons.
Dr. Perry said not everyone is a candidate for the anterior procedure, but those who are experience a faster recovery.
