Emily Scarlett joined WZZM 13 ON YOUR SIDE in May of 2021 as an anchor/MSJ. You can catch her, bright and early, every week day from 4:30 – 7:00 AM.
She’s excited to be returning to her home state of Michigan after working out of state for nearly a decade.
Emily was born and raised in Southfield, MI, a suburb of Detroit. She got her start in broadcasting working at a Lansing radio station shortly after graduating from the University of Michigan.
Her journey to television news broadcasting would begin on the other side of the country in Montana anchoring a new 9 PM newscast at KFBB. Emily’s next stop would bring her back to the Midwest. There, she worked at WHBF in the Quad Cities as a morning anchor. She then got a chance to explore the Southeast for the first time while working as an anchor/reporter for WIS-TV in South Carolina.
Emily’s passion for journalism and storytelling began long before she even recognized it. She served as a morning announcer for her elementary school, would often play games imitating news broadcasts with her sisters and cousins, and would become a student columnist for the Southfield Eccentric newspaper while in middle school. Still, Emily never really considered a career in news broadcasting until shortly before applying to college. Today, she says she’s so thankful to have found her passion.
In her free time, Emily loves good food and is always open to recommendations on the best eats in town. She also enjoys watching movies, bowling and traveling. Most of all, she cherishes time with her family and is grateful to now be just a couple hours away from her loved ones.
She’s spent some time in Grand Rapids before but is looking forward to learning more about the area and to call West Michigan home.
