GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - It started as a small coffee cart in the Waters Building of downtown Grand Rapids. Now, owner Matthew Fuller is opening the first coffee bar/restaurant hybrid in the Roosevelt Park neighborhood.
MudPenny opens at 6 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3. It is located at 570 Grandville Ave. on the corner of Grant Street.
The cafe features Grand Rapids Madcap roasted coffee, handcrafted sodas and a wide selection of other high-quality beverages.
On the restaurant side, customers can enjoy dishes from a flavorful and healthy menu. That includes vegan and vegetarian options, as well as organic meats and locally sourced produce.
Part of the charm is the building itself. It was built in 1911. Some of the historical charm has been restored and updated.
"There aren't too many options in this area." said owner Matthew Fuller. "So to have people come into this neighborhood and discover the heart of Roosevelt Park area, we're very very excited about it."
Fuller says MudPenny plans to donate 1 percent of sales to neighborhood efforts and organizations.
