Taste of My Town: Brown Butter Creperie & Cafe

In this week's Taste of My Town, 13 ON YOUR SIDE Senior Morning Producer Matt Gard takes us to Eastown for some delicious crepes.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Sandwiches and soups are fine options for lunch, but if you're feeling more adventurous, opt for a crepe.

Maybe a crepe is so adventurous that you've never even heard of the word. So what is it?

"It's similar to a pancake but a lot thinner," says Ali Coleman, co-owner and crepe lover. "It's filled with a variety of toppings, whether it's dessert-like, Nutella and strawberries, or something more savory they can have for lunch with ham and cheese."

And Grand Rapids is lacking in the versatile pastry. Owner Coleman and her sister Gabrielle Rivette realized that reality and decided to test their idea by opening a food truck in 2015. Two years later, the sisters opened their brick and mortar location at the historic "windmill" building in the Eastown district.

Diners seem to like the menu.

"It's nice to have something different to try," says a diner. "You don't have any other place that just serves crepes and that kind of variety."

Brown Butter Creperie & Cafe also serves waffles, salads, paninis, and have an expansive espresso bar.
