SPARTA, Mich. — Rogers Park was filled with the musical sounds of the Michigan Mafia String Band on Thursday night as Sparta Town & Country Days kicked off. It's something organizers have been working all year long to make happen.
"Tonight we have a ton of free kids games and activities. We have petting zoos. There's camels and cows and goats and all sorts of things. We have a fun band and bounce houses. Tonight we have our big hay bale toss," said event coordinator Beth Baltruczak.
The carnival opens up on Friday, and then at 11 a.m. on Saturday the downtown area will come alive as the Grand Parade takes place.
Organizers say the best part of it all is sharing the fun with the community.
"I think it's all the families. I mean, you look around here, and there's tons of kids here and lots of families and we're having a good time and it's wonderful to do that for people," said hospitality coordinator Heather Hockey.
