Bling Thing at the Hackley Public Library

The Hackley Public Library is hosting a sale of costume, vintage and fine jewelry with proceeds going towards Library Programs.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Still thinking about that perfect Valentine's Day gift? How about some jewelry?

While it tends to be a more expensive gift, usually saved for special occasions, the Hackley Public Library is hosting its annual fundraiser "Bling Thing." Here, you can find costume, vintage and fine jewelry at a cheaper price.

You can even find some for as low as $1!

The items are evaluated by estate jewelry sales expert Sherry Kelly, then adequately priced.

This year, it's being held in the Barclay Event Center on Barclay Street in Muskegon.

An early sale party is taking place on Friday, Feb. 9 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wine and chocolate will be available with a minimum $15 donation being requested.

On the following Saturday, Feb. 10, they are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., stopping at noon for about half an hour. When they return the costume and vintage pieces will be on sale for 50% off.

Fine jewelry is not affected by the discount but Barbara Klingenmaier, a member of the Friends of Hackley Public Library board, told 13 ON YOUR SIDE they have a lot more of it than in previous years.

Quilt raffle at Bling Thing 2024

As a new feature this year, you can win a custom bookshelf quilt in their raffle, handmade by quilters Kathy Hogston and Colleen Adkins. Prices are $5 for 1 ticket and $10 for 3.

Friday will be the last day to buy them, with the winner being announced during Saturday's event. According to the library, the winner does not need to be present to accept the quilt.

The money raised goes towards the multiple programs put on by Friends of Hackley Public Library throughout the year and renovations to the Hackley Public Library's Local History and Genealogy Department - Torrent House.
