GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — This is a big dill!
The Pickle Fest kicked off at the Ed Dunneback and Girls Farm Market on Friday and will continue through Sunday.
The festival features a wide range of foods that incorporate pickles, as well as a play area for kids and live music.
Hungry? Try some pickle pizza, pickle queso or pickle salsa.
Have a sweet tooth? Get a taste of some pickle donuts.
Need to wash it all down? Pour a nice glass of pickle lemonade, or better yet, pickle beer.
Sarah Stoddard owns the farm with her sister and said this is the first year they decided to add The Pickle Fest to their season of events.
She said every weekend from May through October they host a different festival. Past weekends have seen a Strawberry Festival, Cherry Festival and Blueberry Festival.
While they don't have U-Pick pickles, that didn't stop them from holding the festival.
"We decided this would be a fun event because we all love pickles and we know a lot of other people love pickles. So we got some pickles from another local farm," Stoddard said.
On Saturday the play area for the kids will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday it will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Kids can enjoy the barrel train, mega slide, jump pad, farm animals and other activities.
There will be live music from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
"It looks like it's going to be great weather all weekend, obviously, really hot, but we have plenty of drinks," Stoddard said.
She said the farm is open year-round and in coming weeks they'll have their Sunflower Festival and Watermelon Festival.
In the fall, they'll have a corn maze and U-Pick apples.
"We love to have fun. We have lots," Stoddard said. "Me and my sister both have little kids that we've tried to make this a place that's very family friendly for all the generations. So we have a little bit of something for everything, whether it's the little kids for the play area and the animals, adults can have a good time having few drinks and the full food menu."
