Irish on Ionia bringing green beer, live performances and more to downtown Grand Rapids

There will be high-energy performances throughout the entire day, from live bands like the Leprecons to DJs to Irish dance groups.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Michigan's largest St. Patrick's Day street festival is back, bringing green beer, live music, performances and more to downtown Grand Rapids.

This is the 11th year Irish on Ionia has taken over Grand Rapids.

Each year, Ionia Avenue is closed for several blocks to host the festival. Visitors can stop at different booths to buy their favorite beer and show off their Irish spirit. Local food trucks will also be available.

There will be high-energy performances throughout the entire day, from live bands like the Leprecons to DJs to Irish dance groups.

Todd Ernst, the Irish on Ionia event director, said the focus this year is on sustainability throughout the event.

"We work with a company called Zero Waste Productions, based out of Ohio," he said. "The end goal, the objective is to make sure that 100% of everything is diverted away from landfills."

This year, the event will be incubated out of Hopcat. The only way to visit Hopcat on Saturday is to buy a ticket to Irish on Ionia.

Irish on Ionia runs Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. General admission tickets are $25 each and are still available. To buy yours or learn more, click here.
