GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —

A Grand Rapids-based comedian is returning to his roots Saturday evening to perform at Cornerstone University as a part of his Off the Cuff Comedy Tour

Saturday's two performances will benefit New Creations Prisons Ministries, a Michigan-based nonprofit that helps prison inmates in Michigan and Tennessee find their spiritual needs in preparation for when they embark on post-prison life.

Michael Jr. will host the two comedy shows at the university's Christ Chapel at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $30 to $60.

The Michigan-bred comedian discovered his talents years ago in a Grand Rapids movie theatre after the film projector malfunctioned, and he took center stage of the theatre and improvised for the remainder of the allotted movie time.

Since then, his career has taken off. He has appeared on TV shows such as he has appeared on "The Tonight Show", "The Late, Late Show", "Oprah" and more.

The ticket sales from Saturday's show will benefit New Creation Prison Ministries to help fund multiple programs they organize to help prisoners statewide and in Tennessee. The One-On-One-Ministry program allows volunteers to share the "Good News" of Jesus Christ, Bridge Builders 12-Step Ministry is a Christ-centered 12-step counseling program and Bible Correspondence Course Ministry is a free bible study group for inmates.

Over 2,500 inmates benefit from the program's courses. The nonprofit was founded in 1995 by a Grand Rapids businessman. Since then, it has transformed into a multifaceted ministry that serves all of the prisons in Michigan and Tennessee with the help of volunteers.
