Tulip Time announces entertainment lineup for 2017

Tickets for all shows go on sale Nov. 10, 2016.

Tulip Time Festival have unveiled their entertainment lineup for 2017.

The annual event will be held May 6 through 14.

Detailed program and event information for Tulip Time 2017 is available on www.tuliptime.com. Tickets for all shows go on sale Nov. 10, 2016. Tickets can be purchased online, in person at the Tulip Time Festival Box Office located at 74 West 8th Street in Holland, or by phone at 800-822-2770.

National Entertainment

Vince Gill is coming to Tulip Time! After three consecutive years of comedic acts, Tulip Time has elected to bring back a musical performance as the festival’s headliner. “We are thrilled to have Vince Gill headlining for Tulip Time this coming year,” exclaims Gwen Auwerda, executive director in a press release. “Vince Gill is one of the most popular country music artists of all time and we believe he will have a mass appeal.”

Vince Gill is famous for his top-notch songwriting, world-class guitar playing and warm, soaring tenor, all wrapped up in a quick and easy wit. Gill has won 18 CMA Awards, including Song of the Year four times – making him the most-awarded artist in that category in CMA history. Vince Gill will perform one show at 7p on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Central Wesleyan. Premium Seating tickets (rows 1 through 11) are $72/person; General Seating tickets are $58/person.

New Odyssey Dinner Show – This high-energy festival favorite delights audiences every time by adding new surprises each year. Outstanding arrangements of nearly every musical style are performed by these three ultra-talented guys on 30 different musical instruments! New Odyssey will be performing at the Haworth Inn from Monday, May 8 through Friday, May 12 from 6:30p-9p. Tickets, which include a fabulous dinner, are $44/person.

The Bretts Show – Coming straight off the stage of Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theatre in Branson, Missouri, The Bretts deliver timeless classics, current chart-topping hits and award-winning original music. This dynamic family produces a power-packed, two-hour entertainment experience that delighted our festival audience in 2015 and Tulip Time is excited to welcome them back on Thursday, May 11, 7p-9p at Central Wesleyan. Tickets are $36/person.

FiddleFire – Now in their 5th year at Tulip Time, two shows are being offered so more visitors can enjoy this incredible performance. Playing too sold out audiences each year, FiddleFire fuses various musical styles including Bluegrass, Irish and Classical to create their own unique contemporary folk style. FiddleFire will perform at Beechwood Church on Tuesday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 10 from 7-8:30p. Tickets are $23/person.

Walt Matzke’s Four Pianos – Back by popular demand, this tour de force on four grand pianos features exceptional master pianists with symphony percussionists performing brilliant arrangements of classical, pop, Broadway and movie themes in grand style. Walt Matzke’s Four Pianos will perform on Wednesday, May 10 from 7-8:30p at Central Wesleyan. Tickets are $25/person.

Beautiful Landscapes Presentation & Luncheon – Tulip Time is proud to welcome Katy Moss Warner, President of America in Bloom and President Emeritus of the American Horticultural Society as our featured garden speaker this year. Katy has been judging towns and cities for American in Bloom for the past 10 years and will share some of the inspiring ideas she has collected. The luncheon and presentation will be held at Haworth Inn on Tuesday, May 9 from 11a-1:00p. Tickets are $25/person.

Local Arts & Culture Series

Tulip Time, along with presenting sponsor Fifth Third Bank, are pleased to announce the Local Arts & Culture Series for the 2017 Tulip Time Festival. Each year, several of Holland’s cultural organizations partner with Tulip Time to create an array of entertainment for festival visitors. This year’s events include music, theatre, painting, and a quilt show.

A Barbershop Home Companion - The Holland Windmill Chorus spoofs the nearly 43-year-old radio show Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion . This year’s 90-minute show parodies the same kind of wry skits, mock commercials and jokes, laced with classic American barbershop harmony. Sat., May 6 from 7-8:30p; Tickets are $23/person.

Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling – This special arrangement by Dramatist Play Service is presented by the Holland Civic Theatre. Performance are held on Saturday, May 6 from 7-9p, Sunday, May 7 from 2-4p, Tuesday, May 9 – Saturday, May 13 from 7-9p. Tickets are $23/person.

Tulip Time Quilt Show - Enjoy a unique display of more than 100 exquisite handmade bed quilts, wall hangings, and art quilts. Local artists provide all of these creations that are beautifully displayed in the Padnos and Armstrong galleries of the Holland Area Arts Council. The exhibit runs Saturday, May 6, 10a-4p; Monday, May 8 – Friday, May 12 from 10a-8p, and Saturday, May 13 from 10a-1p. Tickets are $6/person.

Dance Wherever You May Be! - Inspired by the line from the popular folk hymn, “Lord of the Dance,” the Holland Chorale, in collaboration with H2 Dance, a semi-professional repertory company affiliated with Hope College, celebrates life, spring, music and dance! Two performances will be held at Midtown Center on Monday, May 8 and Wednesday, May 10 from 7-8:30p. Tickets are $23/person.

Tulip Time Musical Mix Lunch & Show - You’ll be tapping your feet to the eclectic beat of folk, jazz, country and bluegrass sounds as the Lomax Big House Band takes you on a musical journey. This is the first year performing at Tulip Time for this six-piece ensemble. Sit back, relax and enjoy this lunch and show held at the Double Tree on Tuesday, May 9 – Friday, May 12 from 11a-1p. Tickets are $26/person.

Dazzle! A Tulip Time Talent Showcase - The brilliantly fresh talent from four area high schools bursts onto the stage to present this vibrant medley. Enjoy this astounding variety of soloists, show choir and orchestral performances, all in one show! With over 25 acts, this show is packed with entertainment value for all audiences. The performance will be held at Central Wesleyan on Tuesday, May 9 from 8-10p. Tickets are $15/person.

SUDS - “The Rocking 60's Musical Soap Opera" takes you back to the 1960s to tell the story of a young woman who works in a Laundromat, and the guardian angels that teach her how to find true love - romance in the Wash-O-Rama. SUDS is loaded with clean fun, bubbling energy, and over 50 songs that topped the charts. The Holland High School Theatre performs Thursday, May 11 - Saturday, May 13 from 7-9p and on Sunday, May 14 from 2-4p. Tickets are $20/person.

Tulip Pot Painting – Join the fun at Carolyn Stich Studio as you design and paint the perfect tulip vessel -- a terra cotta pot complete with tulip bulbs! No painting experience necessary! Painting events are held on Monday, May 8, Tuesday, May 9 and Saturday, May 13 from 7-9p. Tickets are $25/person.

Floral Arranging Class – Eastern Floral’s Master Designers will teach you the art of floral arranging. In this hands-on class, you will create a beautiful arrangement to take home. Classes held on Monday, May 8 from 2-3:15p, on Tuesday, May 9 from 10-11:15a and from 2-3:15p. Tickets are $35/p.

The Knick Series

An eclectic collection of performances held at this vintage neighborhood venue, the Knickerbocker Theatre, on Hope College’s campus in Downtown Holland.

Acoustically Speaking – Hailing from Detroit and its vast musical heritage, Duffy has toured throughout the world. Groove to the award-winning guitarist Duffy King best known for his potent Jazz/Rock and R&B/Funk chops. His newest release, Acoustically Speaking, is charting in the top 10 on a number of jazz stations. Catch the show on Thursday, May 11 from 8p-9:30p. Tickets are $25/person.

Comedy at the Knick – Enjoy an evening of clean comedy with comedians Andy Beningo and Chris Young! Andy Beningo was named "Best Comedian: by both the Detroit Metro Times and Detroit Hour Magazine. Chris Young is a frequent performer at comedy clubs and casinos, and was the winner of TV20 Detroit's "That's Funny" Contest. Laugh out loud on Friday, May 12 from 8p-9:30p. Tickets are $20/person.

Second City – We’re All In This Room Together – Chicago’s legendary sketch and improv comedy theater returns to Tulip Time. This must attend show features improvised comedy, audience interaction, and of-the-moment sketches and songs. This spectacularly funny performance takes place on Saturday, May 13 from 8p-10p. Tickets are $30/person.

Celebrate Dutch Culture!

Immerse yourself in Dutch culture through art, music and culinary delights.

Delft on Canvas - Create this traditional Dutch delft design with the expert guidance of local artist Lisa Schulist. No painting experience is necessary to create this beautiful Dutch-inspired masterpiece. You’ll marvel over your own creativity!

Dutch Organ Concert - Rhonda Sider Edgington will introduce listeners to the breadth and depth of Dutch organ music. Experience music from one of the most famous Dutch composers of all time, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621), to modern day composers. Rhonda will share her talent, knowledge and enthusiastic commentary at Hope Church on Sunday, May 7 from 7p-8p. Tickets are $15/person.

Taste of Holland Lunch – Join local culinary experts as they demonstrate the preparation of a 3-course meal that you will savor while learning tips and tricks of Dutch cuisine. The event will be held at Freedom Village on Friday, May 12 from 11:30a-1p. Tickets are $20/person.

Dutch Treat - Enjoy this hands-on experience as Chef Joe Carmolli takes you through the steps of making, baking and savoring the Dutch treat Pig in a Blanket. You’ll also take home a dozen to enjoy later! Classes will be held at the Careerline Tech Center on Monday, May 8 and Tuesday, May 9 from 3-4:30p. Tickets are $40/person.
