BYRON CENTER, Mich. — This weekend, artists of all ages are taking to the sidewalk to show off their skills for the West Michigan Chalk Art Festival.

The three-day event takes place outside the stores at Tanger Outlets in Byron Center. Each artist will decorate a 7-foot-by-7-foot section of the sidewalk with their design.

On Friday, artists will begin their pieces and public viewing kicks off at noon. On Saturday, there will be time for artists to finish their work, a free chalk event for kids, art judging and an awards presentation.

In addition to enjoying the chalk art, there will be a live DJ, a caricature artist and other entertainment on Saturday.

Public viewing will continue Sunday, but no special events or additional artwork will take place.

Winners will take home cash prizes, including $1,000 for the winner in the adult category. There will also be winners for artistic entries like Best Photo Rendition, Best Use of Color, Most Humorous and more.

The West Michigan Chalk Art Festival runs Friday, June 14 through Sunday, June 16. It is free to view. Adults, children and groups can register to compete. Register for the event or see the full schedule here.
