GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The temperatures have dropped, snow has fallen and now it's time to find winter fun for the whole family.
Every Wednesday, we help you plan your weekend with Grand Rapids Kids, so here's a look at some of our top picks:
The Rosa Parks Circle Ice Rink is finally opening up! The downtown Grand Rapids ice rink was scheduled to open the end of last month, but weather didn't permit it. Now that it's up and running, it will stay open until Feb. 23. Open skate hours are from 10 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. on Sundays. It costs $3 for adults and just $1 for kids to skate.
On Friday, Dec. 6 there will be an official tree lighting event at Rosa Parks Circle. There will be gingerbread cookies and hot chocolate, cultural booths, a Grand Rapids Fire Department fire engine or a Grand Rapids Police Department, ice skating performance by the WMU Synchronized Skating Teams. All the details about the annual event can be found here.
The 76th Annual Santa Parade in Rockford is on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. After the parade, kids can visit Santa at the Rotary Pavilion, and grab free cookies and cocoa. You can catch a free carriage ride from noon to 2 p.m.
The Santa Parade in Ada is also on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to noon. Visit Santa afterward, at the Ada Fire Department, and enjoy cocoa and cookies, too!
Finally, the Christmas Candy Cane Hunt is happening at Rogers Park, in Sparta, on Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The event kicks off with a pancake breakfast, then a visit from Santa, and the hunt starts at 10 a.m.
