What's Up This Weekend: Irish on Ionia, parades and more

The weekend is nearly here! Do you have plans?

UPDATE: Irish on Ionia has been postponed until the late summer due to concerns over the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, according to event organizers.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Wednesday may feel like a drag, but it's the perfect time to look ahead to the weekend.

This weekend, a number of West Michigan communities will celebrate St. Patrick's Day early -- starting with Irish on Ionia.  It's Michigan's largest St. Paddy's Day street party and this year is the 10th year it's happening. It'll takeover downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday, March 14. General admission is $25.

For a more kid-friendly event, Grand Rapids will host its annual St. Paddy's Day Parade on Saturday. It starts on Monroe Center Street NW and stop in front of the Grand Rapids Public Library at 11 a.m.

The lakeshore is also going green for St. Paddy's Day. Holland is hosting their annual parade on Saturday at 12 p.m. It starts at the Civic Center and ends between College and Columbia avenues. In Muskegon, their parade steps off at 11 a.m. on 4th Street and Clay Avenue.

If you and your family are looking for music -- you're in luck! Music takes the center stage at the Michigan Irish Music Festival's St Patrick's Party. It's happening at Bella Maria's Event Center in Norton Shores on Friday and Saturday. In addition to live music there will food, beer and a silent auction. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $8.
