What's Up This Weekend: Rooftop Reindeer, ice skating downtown and more holiday fun

If you're sticking around West Michigan this holiday weekend, there is no shortage of fun things to do.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Millions of Michiganders have loaded up their cars and packed their bags for flight as they leave town for the weekend -- but there are still plenty of us hanging around West Michigan for Thanksgiving.

If you're in the area and looking for something to do, don't fret -- there is no shortage of holiday fun to be had this weekend.

Every Wednesday, we help you plan your weekend with Grand Rapids Kids, so here's a look at some of our top picks:

Rooftop Reindeer at Meijer Gardens kicks off Saturday, Nov. 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. Each Saturday through December at the Lena Meijer Children's Garden, kids will get the chance to meet the animals that pull Santa's sled. While at the Meijer Gardens, be sure to check out the Metro Health Christmas and Holiday Traditions exhibition as well.

Head downtown Grand Rapids for a fun day or evening on the ice. The Rosa Parks Circle ice rink opens Friday, Nov. 29 (weather dependent). It will stay open until Feb. 23. Open skate hours are from 10 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. on Sundays. It costs $3 for adults and just $1 for kids to skate.

If you're in the Christmas spirit, check out Christmas at Dahlia Acres in Hudsonville this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. You can buy fresh Christmas decor, like trees, wreaths and porch pots -- as well as mittens, candles and jams. Santa and his reindeer will be there from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and there will be a doughnut food truck. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids.

Another amazing market to check out is the Holiday Market at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts on Saturday. It's from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature 30 different vendors with wreaths, jams, spices, baked goods, jewelry, ceramics, clothing and more. Admission is free.
