GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — For Lindsy Hoezee, Friday, Oct. 27 was a holiday. It was 1989 (Taylor's Version) Day.
She celebrated the day at her store, Sandy's Donuts. They served Taylor Swift-themed donuts, cupcakes, cookies and more in honor of the album re-release.
"I said, whether or not it works out, it’s my thing," Hoezee said. "It’s 1989, and that’s what we’re going to do."
It was a hit. She said people were lined up out the door after Hoezee shared pictures online and they sold out by 9 a.m.
"There’s been people who have come from other cities because they saw it online," Hoezee said.
An economic study by QuestionPro - estimated Swift's The Eras Tour has generated more than $5 billion dollars to the U.S. economy. Sandy's Donuts is cashing in on a portion of that.
"People love supporting locally owned anything," Hoezee said. "She has generated all over for the economy. Here’s no different."
In the days leading up to 1989 Day, Hoezee and her daughter, Ellary, came up with ideas for the sweets and made friendship bracelets to trade.
"It was fun because we got to talk about what it was going to be like today," Ellary said. "And we got to listen to Taylor Swift music."
They also made Taylor Swift's favorite latte: a nonfat caramel latte, called "Taylor's Version" at Sandy's Donuts. You can order a "Sandy's Version" if you prefer a full-fat drink.
You could also purchase Taylor Swift-inspired chai cookies.
While sold out for Friday, Hoezee said they will make more and continue selling Taylor Swift treats Saturday.
