COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — After the West Michigan Whitecaps' 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19, LMCU Ballpark leaders decided to show movies over the summer. Now, the "Flix on the Field" movie series is returning due to popular demand.
"When we first brainstormed the idea of showing movies on our centerfield screen, it was an instant hit," said Dan Morrison, VP of Sales & Marketing for the Whitecaps.
Beginning this month, you can grab a seat on the ballpark's outfield and watch movies on the massive videoboard when the Whitecaps are at away games, including classics like "The Sandlot" and newer blockbusters like "Barbie."
“Creating fun, affordable, memorable family experiences is the core of what the Whitecaps brand is all about,” said Morrison.
In 2020, officials said about 5,000 people came out to the ballpark to watch the movies.
The ballpark will be offering other kinds of family fun, too. You can enjoy a photo booth, a coloring station for younger children, swag and product samples from Family Fare, which is sponsoring the series.
"We’re excited to be able to contribute to moments for local families and communities to come together in creating lasting memories at the LMCU Ballpark,” said Jessica Wong, SpartanNash director of retail marketing.
The following movies will be shown over the summer:
- Thursday, June 27
- 7 p.m. The Sandlot (PG)
- 9 p.m. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (PG-13)
- Friday, July 12
- 7 p.m. The Greatest Showman (PG)
- 9 p.m. Top Gun: Maverick (PG-13)
- Friday, Aug. 2
- 7 p.m. Encanto (PG)
- 9 p.m. Barbie (PG-13)
- Friday, Aug. 30
- 6 p.m. A League of Their Own (PG)
- 8:30 p.m. Field of Dreams (PG)
