MUSKEGON, Mich. — June 14 is the official start date of a Muskegon summer favorite. Movies on Deck is returning to the USS LST 393 this summer.
The Muskegon waterfront tradition will kick off with a screening of Top Gun Maverick (2022) starring Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly. The show will begin right after dusk on the SLT 393's huge screen on the top deck, weather permitting.
Movies on Deck screenings are free to all. However, donations are welcome and help support the restoration and veterans museum.
Moviegoers can bring their own chairs and refreshments. There will also be popcorn, soda and snacks for sale.
Since the beginning of Movies on Deck, donations have helped keep it going. However, some titles still need sponsors.
If the weather doesn't allow for a screening on the top deck, moviegoers can still enjoy the screening aboard the ship. The festivities will be moved below deck and inside the giant tank deck for an indoor showing.
Movies typically start between 9:45 and 10 p.m. If the festivities are moved inside, start time will be 10 p.m.
The LST 393 is located at the Mart Dock on the Muskegon Lake shoreline, adjacent to Heritage Landing county park. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday with the last tour starting at 4. Special guided tours are available and group events can be scheduled by calling 730-1477. More information is available at www.lst393.org.
