Grand Haven Free Fridays concert series highlighting bands, artists with ties to Michigan

Every Friday, a free concert will be held at the Lynne Sherwood Waterfront Stadium. Here's who playing this summer.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — A free concert series will be bringing bands and musicians with ties to Michigan to Grand Haven.

Called Grand Haven Free Fridays, the series will feature a variety of artists performing at Lynne Sherwood Waterfront Stadium each week.

Organizers say music is something that unites people, bringing different cultures and beliefs to a common space while promoting diversity and inclusion.

Many of the artists featured during the series have ties to West Michigan.

“Most of them would have grown up in Michigan or be a part of Michigan in some way, shape or form but some of them no longer live in Michigan because they’ve gone on to do great things," said Bill Gilbert, production coordinator for Grand Haven Free Fridays. "So, they might live in, say, Nashville, or Chicago or some are even in L.A. now, but in the end we wanted to make sure that we were representing Michigan, West Michigan especially.”

Gilbert said Grand Haven Free Fridays go beyond the concert, and that organizers hope families come to the area to make an entire evening out of it.

"It's just such a great community where people can come together and have a great opportunity to enjoy some great Michigan-rooted music," he said, "but also to see that the community supports the community through the business sponsorships and through the personal donations that have helped to keep free music on a free Friday."

If you're interested in listening, you can head to the Lynne Sherwood Waterfront Stadium every Friday at 6 p.m. to hear Michigan bands. While admission is free, donations are welcome, and all donations will be split evenly between six participating local nonprofits.
