SANDUSKY, Ohio — When guests arrived to spend the day at Cedar Point on Tuesday, they noticed something very different about the big entrance sign at the park’s main gate -- the words “Cedar Point” had been removed.
But why? What's the reason for the "Cedar Point" name disappearing from the sign?
This generated some conversation across social media as pictures of the altered entrance sign were shared on Facebook.
You can see some of those photos in the posts below…
While some speculated the change could be connected to the recent merger between Cedar Fair and Six Flags, Cedar Point spokesperson Tony Clark cleared the air about what was happening with the sign by sharing the following message on X Wednesday morning:
“Your enthusiasm for our Main Gate sign refresh has been noted! But no surprises here - fresh paint, updated typeface and 3D version of this logo is on the way to replace it. #signgate2024”
The merger between Cedar Fair and Six Flags -- which was complete on July 1 -- created a newly combined company known as Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. Here's how the company is described:
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation is North America’s largest regional amusement-resort operator with 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks and nine resort properties across 17 states in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Focused on its purpose of making people happy, Six Flags provides fun, immersive and memorable experiences to millions of guests every year with world-class coasters, themed rides, thrilling water parks, resorts and a portfolio of beloved intellectual property such as Looney Tunes®, DC Comics® and PEANUTS®.
