GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — From YouTube TV to Sling TV, customers now have more options than before when picking a streaming platform for live TV.
Jarrett Ferrier from Best Buy talked about the best live TV streaming options of 2020.
"You just get so much more freedom with the streaming applications," said Ferrier. "I get probably five to six people in the day who come and say 'I'm done with cable. They've jumped me up for the fourth or fifth time, and it's time to find something new.'"
When it comes to choosing the right streaming platform, Ferrier says it really depends on what on which channels you want. But, he identified the best live TV streaming options available now for cable-cord cutters. Here's a snapshot of the basic options for each live TV streaming service:
- YouTube TV: $50/month for 70+ channels, 2 weeks free trial, ABC and other network channels available.
- Sling TV: $30/month for 30+ channels, 1 week free trial, Not all network channels available.
- Hulu with Live TV: $55/month for 60+ channels, 1 week free trial, ABC and other network channels available.
- AT&T TV Now: $65/month for 45+ channels, 1 week free trial, ABC and other network channels available.
"A lot of the time I'll ask customers 'Do you want to keep a lot of the local sports channels?' And a lot of people do," said Ferrier. "So there's a lot of different applications for that, but obviously it's going to be a little bit more expensive that the $8 for a basic account."
Remember that a smart TV is not required to stream live TV. Most televisions are compatible with streaming devices like Roku and Amazon Fire TV stick. Also, there is no rule that says a family can only stream live TV on a single service.
Ferrier says that signing up for multiple streaming services to watch a selection of channels a customer prefers could still cost less than a standard cable bill.
