Bikers prepare for the Iceman Cometh Challenge

Bell's Brewery will welcome more than 5,000 mountain bike enthusiasts to the 30th Bell’s Iceman Cometh Challenge mountain bike race this weekend.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It's time for the Iceman Cometh Challenge. Iceman Founder Steve Brown and Amy Richards from Bell's beer stopped by to tell us about the annual event.

Participants will take to the trail on Saturday, November 2nd. The 30-mile mountain bike adventure goes from Kalkaska to Traverse City. Riders range in age from 2 to 72 from 41 different states, plus Mexico and Canada.

The Bell’s Beer Iceman weekend kicks off with the SRAM Ice Cycle Expo on Friday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa. In addition to the Bell's Beer Iceman, the “Meijer Slush Cup” features a half-frozen, 8-mile event for beginning racers. There's also the Meijer Sno-Cone event for riders under the age of 10.

Post-race celebrations will feature Bell’s Beer and are nearly as important as the race itself for many of the riders and spectators.
