Grant Me Hope adds friendly competition to annual community fundraiser

Grant Me Hope adds a double elimination Corn Hole Tournament to its 4th annual Family FunFest on Saturday, Sept. 21.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It's not just a day of family fun, Grant Me Hope is adding a double elimination Corn Hole Tournament to its 4th annual Family FunFest.

The event is set for 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Holland Town Center and Nelis’ Dutch Village.

The fundraiser started in 2016 to launch Grant Me Hope’s “Going National” campaign. The event includes a dinner, admission to Nelis’ Dutch Village and a semi truck show with semis from several West Michigan-based trucking companies.

The trailers all display decals meant to educate the public about the need for adoptive homes in America. These decals travel all over America on partnering West Michigan companies’ trailers.

In 2018 a custom car and motorcycle show was added, and this year, it’s corn hole. Organizers believe the new element will add newcomers of all ages.

“It’s going to so much fun,” Grant Me Hope Founder Helen Zeerip said. “It’s a fun, easy game that almost everyone can play.”

There are sponsorship's from more than 25 West Michigan companies, such as Ess-Tec, Inc., Inontime, Metal Flow and West Michigan Fleet Parts, allow the event to be open to the public without an admission fee, although a freewill donation is suggested.

“Without the consistent support of these two businesses over the past four years (Holland Town Center and Nelis Dutch Village), we couldn’t have pulled off such an amazing event,” Zeerip said. “Joe Nelis and his team help us set up and let us take over their park for a day.”

Festivities include:

  • Hot dog/hamburger dinner with all the fixings
  • Admission to Nelis’ Dutch Village — games, rides, history, shopping, petting farm
  • A custom car and motorcycle show — with awards
  • A semi-truck show
  • Vendor booths and giveaways
  • Corn Hole tournament with trophies and other prizes for the winners!

Registration for the car and motorcycle show starts at noon ($10 for a motorcycle, $15 for a car). Awards are presented at 6 p.m.

Registration for the corn hole tournament starts at 2 p.m. and is $10 per person or $20 per two-person team. Play begins at 3 p.m.

Grant Me Hope is a marketing initiative that works to find loving, adoptive homes for foster children available for adoption. This is done through the production of one and two-minute videos of individual foster children.

Those videos are aired on My West Michigan and other TV stations during the local news and pushed out on social media.
