GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Forget the luaus and volcanos – Joey, as Joseph prefers, wants to travel to Hawaii for another reason. “I want to learn how to surf,” he says.
That seems quite appropriate because Joey loves spending time outdoors. He enjoys playing football and basketball, and he especially enjoys shooting hoops on the weekend.
Joey dreams of playing basketball with some of the sport’s professionals now, and he wants to become a pro basketball player when he gets older. That way, he can realize one of his biggest wishes, which is to have lots of money.
In addition to sports, Joey likes playing video games, particularly the action-packed variety. When he’s asked about his favorite foods, Joey says he likes pizza with veggies, cereal and Superman ice cream. He says black, red, green and blue are his favorite colors, and dogs and wolves are his favorite animals. The factor Joey most wants in a future forever family is commonality, “so we like doing the same things,” he says.
“Joey is a kind, outgoing young man” who does best with structure and routine, says his worker. “He is easy to talk to and fun to be around.” Joey generally does well in school and says that social studies is his favorite subject.
Joey would do best with two experienced and trauma-informed parents who can provide the supervision and one-on-one attention he requires. His worker says Joey’s new parents should be “patient, consistent, supportive and stable.” Joey also would do best as the youngest child in his new forever family. In addition, his new forever family must be strong advocates for the services that will help Joey function at his best.
