GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It's fun to get a makeover and even more fun when you convince one of your friends it's a good idea!
13 ON YOUR SIDE's Dave Kaechele admits he's not very stylish. He sticks to collard shirts and slacks for work and mostly t-shirts and jeans while at home. But this year, he's looking to amp up his style and not break the bank.
This week, WLAV's Michelle McKormick tackles the job of giving Dave a thrifty makeover in another installment of her Thrifty Threads from our friends at Uptown Cheapskate.
Luckily, the men's section of the thrift store can often be a treasure trove of fashionable fits and accessories. You just have to know what you're looking for.
Local thrift shops and second hand stores can have a number of shirts, sweaters, ties and suit coats. And don't fret if they don't fit exactly how you'd like! Taking an item to a local tailor can make all the difference in fit and can really set off a look.
Find the basics in colors that complement your wardrobe. It's much easier to look for navy, black, grey and tan colored staples -- then branch out with trendy and colorful accessories.
Another great way to save money on stylish items is checking the men's shoe section. The shoe section is often full of shoes in decently good shape and quality, for a fraction of the price.
