Local women start group to help empower others facing homelessness, abuse

Women 4 Degage is an emerging group of focused women committed to making a positive impact on the lives women facing homelessness and other difficulties.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A group of influential Grand Rapids women, including business leaders, entrepreneurs and community volunteers, have come together to form Women 4 Degage, a group dedicated to empowering the women of Degage Ministries Open Door shelter.

The group was the dream of Linda Vos-Graham, who is now joined by Carole Valade, who were both moved to action when they heard that Degage Ministries routinely turns women, and often their children, away, due to a lack of space and resources.

Members of Women 4 Degage are using their power, skills and connections to support the women of the Open Door, with whatever they need from expanded services and resources to simple love and friendship.

Women 4 Degage is holding a kick-off event, “A Place for Her,” on Thursday, Aug. 22, where they hope to showcase the work of Degage Ministries and highlight the ways other women can join the group and get involved to empower more women.

Carole Valade, Degage Ministries executives and patrons who have been helped by the Women 4 Degage group are available to speak about the group’s impact. To learn more about Women 4 Degage visit here.
