May activities from the West Michigan Tourist Association

See some of the many activities the WMTA is offering up this month.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —

Many events have been canceled, venues shuttered and shows postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. But that doesn't mean you have to sit at home bored!

The West Michigan Tourist Association has put together a few different opportunities to check out this month! Include some outdoor activities that families can do, free cookbooks to try out new recipes and more.

Outdoors & History with the DNR

With Michigan’s school-age kids home for the rest of the school year, the DNR is providing some fun and educational activities focused on the outdoors and history.

They’ve put together an extensive list of links and materials to give families plenty to do.

Resources include DNR nature videos, virtual field trips, indoor and outdoor nature exploration activities, lessons and reading materials for various grade levels, free apps, and much more.

Upper Penninsula Landmarks

Explore landmarks and attractions in and around Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula from home with their 360°online tours.

The videos will work on your smartphone or computer, and let you control the point-of-view to explore at your own pace.

They have fourteen videos to check out, including virtual visits to a Soo Locks Boat Tour, the Tower of History, Tahquamenon Falls, Point Iroquois Light Station, the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, and more.
