GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Michigan currently ranks 23rd in the U.S. when it comes to mental illness. That means about 1.4 million adults are affected in our state.
Those statics are sparking a national conversation on mental health and it's taking place right here in Grand Rapids.
The Crisis Residential Conference is bringing together experts from 23 states to discuss the access and quality of behavioral health services and a way to find solutions to the ones affecting our communities.

- About 1.4 million MI adult (18.07%) identify as having "any mental illness" (AMI)
- 217,000 (2.8%) of MI adults suffer from alcohol dependence

- 743,000 (53.7%) estimated untreated
- 279,000 (20.1%) reporting unmet needs
- 174,000 (12.5%) uninsured
- 20th for youth access to care
- 55,000 (62.0%) estimated untreated
- 19,000 (29.0%) received some consistent treatment
- 20,000 (4.7%) with private insurance that did not cover non-physical support
- 22nd for mental health workforce availability
